The twin room here has central heating, a work desk, and a TV; the marvelous location is a bit of a walk from Senso-ji Temple, and all the staff are truly wonderful and pleasant.

Shigetsu ryokan is always pleasant and clean. I love the simple, Japanese style rooms and the rooftop bath. Having simple breakfast available is a very easy way to start ones day. The location is perfect as one can just spend the day (or part of a day) right there and see the temple, shop and see a part of Tokyo and Japan that still has much of the older feel of shita machi.

The staff were particularly helpful and friendly. The ryokan is well located in a picturesque part of Asakusa and very conveniently placed for access to public transportation. They do a very fine breakfast, and both my wife and I really liked the the wooden hot bath. It was located on the top story with a nice view out over the neighborhood from the window, with it view through a window on the top story.

A comfortable ryokan with very hospitable people running the place. The rooms are nicely decorated. The breakfast is a real feast. And there's a Japanese bath on the sixth floor with a view on Sensoji's pagoda, where you almost forget you're in such a big city.
We had a room on the street side and there was a lot of traffic at night (i.e. trucks unloading).

1. Run like a traditional Japanese inn by a wonderful family with great respect for Japanese tradition, but also tolerant of western gaucheness. Choice of Japanese or western breakfast, both good. There is a public bath (like visiting a hot tub). 2. Fantastic location in Asakusa, beside Senso-ji temple (for sights) and Nakamise street (for souvenir shopping) where all the tours want to bring you. 4-minute walk to three subways.
1. Even though Asakusa is a quiet working class neighbourhood, it's hard to find cheap places (for example if you want a morning coffee outside the ryokan) because of the nearby tourist sights. 2. Depends what you want - are you OK to sleep on a futon on the floor in a very small room, with very limited TV stations?

The room is comfortable and above standard for a budget ryokan.
For a ryokan, staff are quite impersonal. They also don't adhere to the curfew - one fellow traveller dropped his key in the reception on the way out; returning before the curfew he found the staff had already retired, and had to break into the reception to get his key.

Friendly Staff, Rooms, Decor, Origami bird on the pillow, bottle of water in the room, location, indoor onsen.
Very little. Check out too early, bathroom a little small for westerners, but you get that in Japan, was alittle hard to find at first. No major problems.

It is in a good location for access to sights at Asakusa (temples, souvenir shopping) and Ueno (Zoo, museums) and also not too far from the Tokyo Skytree and the river for river cruises. The staff are very friendly and speak English well. The Japanese breafast is excellent.
I stayed in a western style bedroom and the bathroom was tiny, although this was expected for a budget type accommodation.
